While previous iGaming initiatives failed in Connecticut, Tribal gaming interests successfully lobbied for legislation after the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic shuttered their brick-and-mortar casino operations (while nearby states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania online operations boomed). By doing so, Connecticut became the seventh state to legalize online gaming. On May 27, 2021, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont (Democrat) signed legislation ( House Bill 6451) legalizing sports wagering and online gaming, including online poker. Sports Betting is legal since May, 2021.
